<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It's been quite an unexciting week, with plans made and dropped several times. We will get a wee trip along the coast & fit in a visit to one of the local cafe's for a spot of fish & chips - eventually!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Freshly Made Sketches Challenge
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I had some papers with a diagonal lace pattern which came with a Joanna Sheen papercraft kit so decided to use that as a guide for the design. The embellishment is a rose die which came from The Works. I ran the die twice, once in lilac card stock and the second in white which had been coloured with Distress Inks. When I cut out the white card stock I used a folded sheet of kitchen towel behind it and that gave an embossed, slightly puffy look to the cut out. I took some Mod Podge and sealed the kitchen towel on the back to keep it all together and once it was dry I used a satin varnish used for decopatch over the top.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I have been working on some baby cards for my friend's card collection, I had a couple of things stamped out waiting for a card to go on so I decided to use the FMS sketch to make one of them. This one for a baby girl uses the Woodware "Huge Baby" word stamp set along with the tiny crown stamp from another of the Woodware baby sets "Cutie Pie Vest". I had been going to add "Little Princess" to the sentiments on the card but decided against it.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I did, however, use the "Little Prince" on the "Cutie Pie Vest" baby boy card that made. I made a Distress Ink background and then used more Distress Ink to colour the vest to help lift it up from the background. The "Congratulations" die comes from a small Dovecraft set, I used a clear embossing powder to give it a glossy finish.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Last Friday, while hubby was been sitting out in the garden topping up his tan, my teenage son and I went out in the car for a run along to Portmoak Church to take flowers, it's been a wee while since we were there as I've not been feeling able for the hill. I had phoned ahead to the local farm cafe near Loch Leven and booked one of their garden "pods" so that afterwards we could have an hour or so of bonding time over a cream tea.

There is an island on Loch Leven which <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">has a small castle on it, it is where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">after her surrender at Carberry Hill on 15 June 1567. According to today's weather forecast it's been the hottest day of the year so far and they reckon it's going to get even hotter by the end of the week - great timing for the start of the school holidays! Our son is just finishing off some last minute College coursework and that will be him off on holiday as well.

I cannot believe the amount of bird food I am going through at the moment, in the last 24 hours one feeder has been fully loaded three times and the seed feeder filled twice.

I have some more cards to make for my friend's collection, it's her brother's birthday soon so I thought I would use this weeks Freshly Made Sketches Challenge as inspiration.
I chose the motorcycle as her brother was a keen motorcyclist.
The stamps I used were "free" with a magazine (several complaints in to the Advertising Standards Authority about the way the publishers describe these promo items, especially when they change the price from Issue to Issue).
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Hard to believe that we are already half way through June already and in a couple of days it will be the Summer Solstice!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Lots of frantic activity in the garden with birds queuing up to get to the feeder, so much so that in between the squabbles, fisty-cuffs kept breaking out. It got so bad I went out and bought a second feeder to try and keep the peace! I honestly don't know how they can get off the ground at the rate they are going through suet balls, meal worms and seed mixes!

I was struggling a bit trying to work out what to make for this week's Freshly Made Sketches Challenge. There were a few false starts as nothing seemed to work the way I wanted it to.

Over the weekend I was working on some new boxes for my son's supply of cards. He had handed me one of the originals I'd made for him which was looking the worse for wear and asked me if I could make him another. I ended up repairing that one, which was a favourite of his, and a couple of others. While I had embossed some of the cardstock for the boxes with a effect cog wheel embossing folder and had cut out some cogs for decoration from the Tim Holtz set I had. It was when I saw the cut out corner pieces that I realised I might have what I needed for this week's sketch.

Y<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">esterday was the first day of the Meterological summer, the sun was shining and so to celebrate I took Suzi (my car) out with the roof down and all the windows open so she could pretend to be a cabriolet. In reality I just headed out to go for some free range eggs from a local farm - the roof and windows were soon closed to try and tame the rather pungent farm odours.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
I was listening to the radio on the way back home and the news reader was telling everyone how we've just had the sunniest and warmest May since records began. The words were hardly out of his mouth when the heavens opened, I had no jacket with me and from the short distance from car to house I was soaked!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It's been warm and sunny today but while I was taking photos of this week's cards I could hear rumbles of thunder in the background but the rain has stayed away (for now).

When I first looked at this week's Freshly Made Sketches Challenge it made me think of an opened envelope so I began to have a look at what I had that would work. Originally I was going to have the background as text like a letter but when I couldn't find anything I liked to use to make it decided rather than an envelope I would make a pocket with a decorated tag to put into it.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">While having a clear out I found the head of large artificial thistle and it reminded me that I had a couple of stamp sets that I could use in a card to put it to good use in some photos.

The tag was made using the Woodware "Thistle" and Crafty Impressions "Bonny Scotland" set. I used a section of white ribbon which I partially unravelled to make the fringed pull coloured with the same markers as the image to give the appearance of a thistle. Another piece of ribbon was unravelled to make a fringed bow.

It was only after I posted my entry into this week's challenge and was looking over what I'd written the following day that I realised what a numpty I had been - I hadn't coloured the thistle properly, too much purple! This is what happens when you do things when you really ought to be in bed asleep!

This is what it should look like

Out for lunch this afternoon with hubby and son joined by a few sisters-in-law and brother-in-law. I had been dreading this birthday but once I got to the restaurant and was looking round our tables I realised that, apart from our son, I was actually the youngest one there! I felt a bit better after that.

I recently acquired a set of Dyan Reavely's "Shut up and colour" stamps and as the dark forboding clouds of Big Birthday approached I found myself drawn to using a few of them . . .

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This one had me reaching for Tonic's Rococco Mirror

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> "Auld age disnae come itsel'!" was one of my Gran's favourites. She was right, in these parts it also comes with a bus pass! I already had one due to some health and mobility issues so that may have been why I was drawn to the words of this stamp . . .
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
My entry for this week's challenge uses 3 of the 5 cute pandas from the Woodware "Pandamonium" set. It is actually a single strip of 5 panda stamps but I found it a bit unweildy to use (doesn't fit in my stamp platform all that well). I decided that it would be more flexible to use if it was cut into two lots of two sitting pandas plus a single panda who is standing. I nearly split the set of two in this card up as well but they sit very close to each other and didn't want to damage them if the scissors slipped.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Not a lot of colouring required for this one; just the background and an outline around each panda,
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">What lovely weather we have been having over the last few days and the garden is beginning to get it's colour back. The sun came out on Friday just in time for "The Wedding" and has stayed for a couple of more days. As the TV began the build up to the event, there was one song from "Calamity Jane" that kept going through my head. It made me wonder if there was someone else humming it as she was getting ready <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">for her big day - "Tis Harry, I'm Planning to Marry".

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Whilst all the pre-amble & idle chat was going I thought I would try this week's Freshly Made Sketches Challenge, it was either that, or help hubby sort out the garden shed - so, obviously, no contest!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Our Great-Niece, Annie, has her 6th Birthday coming up so I decided to use the sketch to make her card. I double checked how old she was going to be as last year I made a mistake with her big sister's card and got a telling off!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The stamp I used is the Woodware "Fairy House" and I coloured it with the set of pens I recently purchased from The Works. They should have been £40 for the 40 pens but between discount codes and reward points I managed to get £17 off - bargain! They are really nice pens to use, I am impressed!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The colour cardstock pack was also a bargain from the local "Poundland".

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This next card is to add to the all events card collection I am making for my friend who is currently housebound. This one uses the Woodware "Whale Hello" stamp set. The background paper is from a "Whizz Kids" paperpack and I used my marker pens to match the colour of the waves to the colour of the mat I used for the stamped image. The background is Distress Inks in the very apt colours of "Salty Ocean" and "Mermaid Lagoon".

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I forgot to add this card a couple of weeks ago, it is one I made for my sister's Birthday earlier this month.

This is one of the largest stamps made by Woodware called "Jacqui's Garden". I teamed this up with one of the Tonic Design Studios Window Box 3D die set "Tangled Terrace" (it's another one of my bargain buys!)

I learned a valuable lesson on this one, the first I'd made, in that you have to choose your cardstock very carefully to make sure it can withstand the folding. I had used my American Craft "Heavyweight" "Summer" cardstock but it tore at the tabs and I had to reinforce them - hence the added larger flowers fussy cut to try to cover the repairs.

It was rather yummy with a cherry and dark chocolate scone, clotted cream, strawberry jam made with fruit from the farm and, of course, some new season strawberries!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Unfortunately, it has been a bit of a naughty week eating wise, and after having that plus a Chinese take out that evening I got a bit of a shock standing on the scales yesterday morning - it's back on plan starting tomorrow!

I've had some peace and quiet today as hubby is out with his brother while son is out with some friends so the time was good to sit down and have a proper look at this week's Freshly Made Sketches Challenge

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I remembered a Darice embossing folder that I bought a few years ago which embossed a lacy oval but hadn't quite decided as to what else to do with it. We have some family members moving house and I had been working on cards for them so while looking at my stamps I decided that I would use the Woodware Love Birds stamp to go with it.

It was actually warm and sunny enough to go & take photos outside, just a slight breeze to keep knocking the cards over but I got there in the end!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I used Nuvo pens to add colour to the embossed design and also used the matching pen to create both the mat and the plaque to take the sentiment "It takes hands to build a house, but only hearts can build a home".

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The challenge card with other "New Home" cards I have made recently

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The images were coloured using a mixture of Tonic Nuvo & Winsor & Newton Promarker pens. For the "Three Houses" stamp set I went for the Tobermory (Balamory) coloured house look.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Whilst not exactly a new house card I just had to include a card made using the Woodware "Unfrogettable" set. Coloured with some "Script" alcohol markers I bought in Aldi a couple of months ago. The dragonfly has had some Sakura Gelly Roll Clear Stardust applied to it's wings.
I can remember bringing our son home 19 years ago and the cherry blossom being out on the trees in front of our house. Today the branches look bare. When we got married 21 years ago (give or take a couple of days) all the daffodils that were out in bloom across the town in the grounds of the church but in our garden today our daffies are only in bud (maybe they'll make an effort for Thursday!).

I'm still working on putting together a selection of cards for my friend who is unable to get out and about since her stroke. Her Great-Nephew has a birthday coming up so I decided to use the sketch at this week's Freshly Made Sketches challenge to make a card for him.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Among my latest stamp acquisitions has been "The Blimps" by Woodware so felt that one of the little aliens would go well with some card stock I have had lying around for quite a while. I've not used either of them before so <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I suppose for Alfie's card I'm going to be venturing into alien territory!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">After taking the photos, I thought that it might be an idea to use a googly eye on the stamped image to add a little bit extra dimension to the alien.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">When I saw this week's Freshly Made Sketches Challenge I had a couple of ideas in mind but as usually what I had in mind doesn't always translate well in practice!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I had a play with some washi tape and some paper strips but just couldn't seem to get past the planning stage with them. Then yesterday I saw something on a Facebook group I belong to and thought I would give it a try - elastic band stamping. Just take an acrylic block, wrap some elastic bands around it, add some ink (or in this case I used a watermark pad) and use it to stamp your design. I used a copper coloured embossing powder and was quite pleased with the result it gave.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I have only a few sheets left of matt metallic cardstock copper and not been able to find it again but decided to use it for this - I took a rectangular layering die to the inside of it to make the most of what I had left for the embellishments.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I have been making cards to give to my friend who is housebound so that she has some to hand when she needs them. I am trying to cover all occasions so this will be one for adding to the pack I am putting togethr for her.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Next week sees my teenage son reach 19, where have all those years gone? He's been lucky in that here in Fife, regardless of when Easter actually is, the School/College Easter holidays tend to fall around his birthday - in fact he was born Easter weekend in the Chinese Year of the Rabbit so I suppose he could be the Easter Bunny!

The 3rd of April is an important date in this household, as well as it being our son's Birthday it is also the 36th anniversary of the Battle of Grytviken (King Edward's Point) at the start of the Falklands War. My husband was one of the 22 Royal Marines from HMS Endurance and NP8901 who were defending<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> South Georgia against an Argentine invasion. Unfortunately he won't make it to the reunion next Saturday but no doubt we will have a few catch up phone calls to make up for it.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">With it being our son's Birthday I, obviously, definitely needed to make a card and, due to the fact that he is learning to drive, had already decided to try and incorporate one of my car dies into it. When I saw this week's Freshly Made Sketches Challenge I had a wee smile to myself as it fitted perfectly with what i had in mind.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The car is paper pieced from a Sweet Dixie die called "Vintage Car", some irridescent sequins have been used as the headlights. The scarlet red card is a gorgeous Craft Perfect Satin (matte) metallic - very stroke-able!!! The embossing folder is Darice's "Diagonal Stripe" & Happy Birthday stamp is from Penny Black's "You're Retro" stamp set.
Often when I'm using my stamps I'll stamp off a couple of extras and put them away to colour up on those nights when I can't sleep. I also make up some backgrounds using Distress Inks and put them away in a folder for future use. My friend is housebound so I thought I would start putting a few cards together for her so that instead of her spending a fortune on buying from online stores she could have some at home for when she needs them.

I have accumulated a few now so thought I would haul them out and get some photos taken.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The last few days have been a pain - quite literally! The injection I get for my TMJ has been wearing off for the last couple of weeks and so the long wait until the next one (end of April) begins. Headaches, earache and the worst toothache (pressure from the over-tightened jaw muscles) I have had in goodness knows how long. I was taking muscle relaxants and strong painkillers and still the toothache persisted, then I remembered clove oil - only I didn't have any and it was the middle of the night so off to the kitchen and flinging things around the baking cupboard until I found the long lost jar of cloves. Within about half an hour of sucking on a couple of cloves (tastes awful) the pain was gone! <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It's amazing how the simplest of natural things can be more effective than mighty pharmaceuticals!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
When I can't sleep and looking for things to do I sometimes will get the stamp platform out and make some images that I can colour in later another time I can't sleep. What a difference having a stamp platform makes when you aren't very good at stamping right first time! I got my recent Woodware stamp purchases out and got on with churning some out, some just stamped and some stamped and embossed. I recently ordered a couple more but they won't be here until later in the week (I hope).

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I had some images already coloured and had already been cut out in stitched circles and when I saw this week's <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Freshly Made Sketches Challenge

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I thought I might use one of those but in the end decided against it and went for a simple mat and layer style instead using one of the Woodware "Three Toadstool" stamps I had been colouring in. I had originally coloured one in red like a traditional "fairy" toadstool and made it up but after looking at it a couple of times I decided maybe I needed a to be a bit more colourful instead and came up with this instead. For the band I stamped some of the grass from the bottom of the stamp onto some green cardstock and fussy cut it to make a foreground then added a sentiment and the small heart in heart die from the Tonic "Hello Beautiful Layering Hearts" set. The shaded background gives the hint of a circle.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Just when you think the worst of the weather has gone, it decides to come back for more! It's been really cold, with strong winds making it feel even colder but at least the snowfall has been light this time around.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I kind of got a little carried away this week making cards, well the weather was lousy and I wasn't going anywhere. I had three attempts at making something for this week's Freshly Made Sketches Challenge

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The first two attempts were fine but just felt that they were, perhaps, just a wee bit too dark. I had a couple of sets of stamps which I recently acquired and wanted to have a bit of a play with those, I thought that the Woodware "<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It's The Little Things" sentiment stamp "Nothing says Happy Birthday like a piece of folded card!" was quite amusing and decided to use that for the first one. I had some matt copper metalic cardstock and went for a verdigris colour ing using distress inks for the front panels.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Still using the verdigris look, slightly darker this time, I played about with some dies I had bought from "The Works" earlier this year, they have only started selling dies in the last 12 months, some branded names & some of their own. The ornate & square dies in this card are from their own collection.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Over the weekend it was St Patrick's Day with Ireland playing England in the Six-Nations Rugby Championship. An Irish win on St Patrick's Day would see them with the Triple Crown and the Grand Slam. I didn't have anything with a shamrock on it but I did have the Lawn Fawn set with the lucky four-leaf clover on it so decided to use that. I was making the card while the game was on in the background, it must have done the trick as they beat England 24-15 and won the Triple Crown (they beat Scotland, Wales & England), the Grand Slam (as the Triple Crown plus France & Italy) and ,of course, the Championship.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Last week we had "The Beast From The East" weather front that brought lots of snow and wind & this week they are talking about "The Pest From The West"! Fortunately this time around it looks as though it is going to miss us over here in the Kingdom of Fife.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The snow from last week is almost gone, just the remnants of where it was piled up from path and road clearing & we can see the snowdrops and crocus in the garden again.

I've been staying warm indoors & been trying some crafty things I've been meaning to for a while now - been ages since I experimented with something messy! I've had Brusho colour powders for ages but not really done much with them so I dug them out and had a play - should have worn latex gloves! Got some backgrounds done and then decided to have a try at doing some resist techniques with them, faux bleach effect. Out came the embossing kit and some new stamps to try. Put the new stamp on to the stamp platform and started applying the Ranger Perfect Medium that I've had for a while but not used in ages - what a mess! As I am applying it the Perfect Medium sponge (or whatever it is) decided that it was now chewing gum and left lumps all over the stamp - not impressed and not the kind of messy crafting I had in mind when I started! Fortunately I had a different embossing pad and could use that instead. I ended up trying the faux bleach effect with the Brusho colours and also using my Distress Inks as watercolours with two of my new Woodware floral stamps; "Wiggly Stems" and "Tall Flowers". I used one of these efforts as the background to this weeks Freshly Made Sketches Challenge.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This background with the faux bleach effect was made using the Woodware "Wiggly Stems" and Distress Inks. I originally had the Crazy Bird stamp also with the faux bleach effect but it just look weird - sort of had that "You're not really going to make me wear that!" look my son gave me as a toddler when I bought him a hat with teddy ears on! I soon changed it to a normally stamped image instead. The bird was coloured with Promarkers, which I then went over with the blender pen to give the appearance of watercolour and to try and tone to match the Distress Ink.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This is one of the Brusho backgrounds I came up with. I had the stamp in mind when I was making this one so was trying to aim to get some of the colours in the areas I wanted to colour the flowers. It's an A5 piece of cardstock which was cut down for stamping once it was dry. Compared with the Distress Inks, the Brusho colours seemed much more vibrant and intense.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">"Sunshine? You're having a laugh aren't you!" were the words of my darling husband as he saw the card I had made for this week's Freshly Made Sketches Challenge. <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Teenage son's comment "Oh, the irony of it!" I suppose sums it up!<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> It's supposed to be Spring but we have been in the midst of the worst weather we've had in Scotland for years! They have been calling it the "Beast from the East" - a weather front consisting of lots of snow and strong winds.

My sister was snowed in for three days as she lives in a small village that the snow ploughs never quite seem to get to, the snow drifting up to chest height. We've not been quite so bad, the only drift we have is where the snow has blown up about 2ft against the shed door. Our wee Jack Russell has been loving it - hates to get wet but loves the snow! I opened the patio doors and the snow fell in so I started making snow balls and, to the delight of Jack, threw them into the garden for him to "catch". Our next door neighbour's teenage daughter and two of her friends have built an igloo in their back garden - it took a couple of days but the three of them managed to get in it. It was really nice to see it finished off with fairy lights!

I'm pleased to say that the thaw now seems to be setting in and we can get out and about again - we even got mail today, hooray!!!

I had recently bought a Tim Holtz Mixed Media set from Amazon Warehouse that I had been wanted, it that said it had damaged packaging - there was a couple of quid off it and free delivery so I thought why not. It turned out one of the dies had a slight kink in it but this didn't affect it. The die I was looking at was a mosaic effect & I was wanting to use it but not sure how but on a look through my stash I found a Sizzix set "Rainy Days and Sunshine" which had, funnily enough, sun dies and a pair of sunglasses. The light bulb went off when it occured to me that the mosaic could be the bottom of a swimming pool!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The backgrounds are three shades of blue Distress Ink - Broken China, Salty Ocean & Faded Jeans and three shades of yellow/orange - Spiced Marmalade, Wild Honey & Mustard Seed. The background was coloured then once the mosaic die cut place on top, more colour added to blend in the top layer. The area under the die cut and the central area of the die cut were stamped with Perfect Medium and embossing powder added to try & give the "pool" a wet look.

It's not very obvious but I used a die cut of the mosaic design to emboss some texture onto the orange/yellow cardstock.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Nice to see the days getting longer & soon the clocks will be springing forward but today it is a bit on the chilly side. It has been trying to snow and apparently it is going to be rather a cold week, it looks as though my heated throw will be staying out storage for a bit longer!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I was having a look for something among my crafty bits and bobs during the week and came across a sheet of Bird Crazy stamps I had coloured in a long while ago. A couple of days later one of hubby's nephews had posted this Gif on his Facebook page

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">so I just had to do something with the stamps which may be appropriate

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I hadn't used these stamps for ages and when I saw the latest Freshly Made Sketches Challenge sketch

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I originally thought that I would use one of the other stamps I had found as there were some ready coloured and cut out. I came up with this in combination with a Tim Holt's Mixed Media #3 die but wasn't very happy with it so it was back to the drawing board (or rather the craft stash).

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">After a lot of staring at things I decided I hadn't really done many male oriented cards lately so set myself the goal at finding something to fit. I had a checkered plate embossing plate (Crafters Companion "Gun Metal") and used that as my starting point and then the industrial theme began to take shape so the Tim Holtz "Gearhead" cog wheel dies came out.

Originally it was just going to be an arrangement of the cog wheels but when it came to looking out a sentiment for it I found the Dyan Reavely "Be you, the world will adjust" stamp and remembered I also had a Tim Holtz world globe die. My thinking behind this card was to set the globe slightly at an angle to the cogs as if it was part of a mechanism. Oh well, it was just a thought, but this is what the reality of that looks like:

I only got it today so have been trying to get used to it - slowly! The new keyboard is smaller than the last one as this has a separate number pad so I am a bit hit and miss with the typing!!!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">so, I decided to have another try. The hearts went back into the folder and out came the flower dies, banner dies & an embossing folder.
I originally used the plain green card to make the outer and inner parts of the flower but felt, that colourwise, it looked a little flat against the background I used left over embossed card for the base part of the flower and the textured patterened card I had used as a mat as the upper part, it has a slight sparkle to it but that doesn't seem to be picked up by the camera.
Part 1 - Love Hearts<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Good grief - two weeks in a row and two more posts!!!

Bit like a bus you wait for ages for one and then they all appear at once I have actually managed to put together a couple of more posts!

Not been sleeping too well so these are some insomniac specials. I was having a look at this weeks challenge at Freshly Made Sketches and hauled out one of my die folders and see what there was that I could use. Valentine's Day is only a couple of weeks away so I had a look for something appropriate that would fit with this week's sketch

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Once I'd found the dies I wanted to use I couldn't make up my mind how to put it together so instead on one version I came up with two:
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Wow, I didn't realise it had been over 5 months since I last posted on my blog!

There's been a lot going on, some good but unfortunately a lot that's not been quite so great and I've just not had the enthusiasm I perhaps should have had.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Whilst I have still been following the Freshly Made Sketches Challenges and have even made a few things I haven't posted anything, mainly due to the time it takes me to remember to take the photos, the link has closed! This weekend the planets have, eventually, aligned and I made not one but two cards and taken photos in plenty of time (with a couple of hours or so to spare) to actually enter something - hooray!!!

I actually had a wee laugh when I saw this week's sketch as, as a wee pick me up, I had just treated myself to the Tonic Studios Design Collection Magazine & Kit 4 which had a set of 10 "Hello Beautiful" Layering Hearts dies, 8 stamps, an A6 embossing folder and some papers. Yippee, off to a good start, I had something in the design I could work with!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Couldn't believe my eyes on Thursday when I went into a local shop to see all the summer things being move off the shelves and lots & lots of gift sets taking their place. I said to the assistant, "Please tell me this isn't the Christmas stock coming in already." to which she replied "Sorry, but it is!" For goodness sake the kids just started back at school the previous day & we haven't even had Hallowe'en yet! I totally hate this horrible over commercialisation of Christmas.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Rant over!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Yesterday was hubby's birthday which meant lunch at the local Chinese buffet restaurant - my downfall is finishing off with my favourite Chinese toffee apples and toffee bananas. Weigh in this morning showed a pound on & I had been so close to getting my next sticker last time. Oh well, back to keeping notes of everything to pass my lips so it doesn't go on my hips!

As I had been making cards for hubby's birthday (one was a commission from our son) I thought I should try this week's Freshly Made Sketches Challenge

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I've purchased a few unbranded dies lately, one of which was rather a
large pair of puckered lips so as this kind of, sort of, reminded me of
the back of an envelope I though SWALK!

I had already cut out the lips in a glitter card to check out how good they were at cutting out (some branded dies have had problems cutting out using this card) but it cut cleanly first time and was added to my stash. I decided to keep it black and white to set off the hot pink lips.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">When I saw this in close up it reminded me a little of the opening credits to "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". Maybe should have made the lips bright red instead of hot pink!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Not posted for a few weeks, not that I haven't been making the odd card or two, I just haven't been happy enough with them to post on here.

The schools here go back tomorrow but for the first time since 2004 my boy won't be there, College doesn't start for another couple of weeks. Exam results came out last week and whilst he wasn't very happy with results for some of his subjects I'm pleased to say that he has a place to study Electrical Engineering at College next month.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">So much for summer in this corner of the world - I think we've had more rain than sun. We've not been away anywhere but hubby has still managed to get himself a suntan by sitting out back listening to his CDs

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">As I mentioned earlier, although I have made some cards I've not been too happy enough to put them in for the Freshly Made Sketches Challenges.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">However as this week's sketch is the 300th challenge, I thought I should make an effort to produce something that might fit the brief.

I recently purchased some dies from the Far East and as they arrived this weekend I decided to try and do something with them and this is what I ended up with. This week the weather decided to improve and we have seen the hottest day so far this year. Apparently we ain't seen nothing yet as the long term forecast is for a hot summer - although I will believe it when I experience it. On Saturday just as we were leaving the restaurant after my Birthday lunch the rain started & soon it became a thunderstorm - oh well, I suppose the lawn was needing a good watering!

This week also saw my son finish the last of his exams and on Wednesday he walked out of school for the last time as a pupil. He's already got an unconditional place at College on the grades that he has and an offer of a conditional place, on a higher qualification course, depending on the results he gets when this years SQA envelope comes through the door.

I had a rummage through my supplies and found a Lili of The Valley & NitWit Collections "Perfect Pair" paper pad that came as a magazine freebie. I chose the sheet which had a diamond pattern consisting of some of the other designs from the collection and decided to turn it into a patchwork quilt by using my scoreboard to give a quilted texture & adding some faux stitching to the diamond shapes with a black pen. I cut three of the diamond shapes out then created a small embellishment with the addition of a button, some thread and a teeny bit of bling. I also used some strands of coordinating thread to create some detail at the fold of the card.
